Electric G-Class: The OG Goes Green and Gets Mean
Remember the iconic boxy SUV, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class? It’s back, but it’s all-electric and bursting with power this time. Buckle up, because we’re diving into the details of the all-new electric G-Class the G580 with EQ Technology (catchy name, right?).
Still a Beast Off-Road
Don’t worry, even though it’s electric, the G-Class EV stays true to its roots. Mercedes promises it’ll be just as capable off-road as ever. How? It’s got four electric motors, one for each wheel. This fancy setup lets the G-Class perform amazing off-road tricks, like spinning in circles (think tank turn) or using special power adjustments to navigate tight corners. Plus, it’s got features like virtual diff locks and an off-road crawl mode to help you conquer any terrain.
Surprisingly Quick and Powerful
This electric G-Class isn’t just about brawn, it’s got the brains (and the battery) to match. With all four motors working together, it cranks out a whopping 579 horsepower. That puts it on par with its gas-guzzling, high-performance sibling, the G63. Mercedes estimates it can launch from 0 to 60 mph in a scorching 4.6 seconds.
Range and Charging
While official range numbers aren’t out yet, we expect the G-Class EV to travel around 240 miles on a single charge. Need a quick power-up? No problem. The G-Class can DC fast charge at up to 200 kW, which can juice the battery from 10% to 80% in about 32 minutes. Mercedes has even added special underbody plates to protect the battery when you’re off-roading.
Luxurious Interior with Tech Galore
Step inside the G-Class EV, and you’re greeted by a luxurious cabin loaded with high-end finishes. Standard features include fancy massaging seats and ambient lighting that you can adjust to your mood. The driver gets a commanding view of the road thanks to the upright dashboard design. There’s plenty of space in the front seats, but the backseat is a bit tighter compared to some larger SUVs. Cargo space also takes a slight hit due to the battery placement, but it’s still enough for most needs.
Tech Loaded Dashboard
The G-Class EV boasts a high-tech dashboard with two large 12.3-inch screens. One acts as a customizable gauge cluster, while the other controls the latest MBUX infotainment system. This system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a voice assistant, and even fancy augmented-reality navigation. Need off-road info? No problem, there’s a special Offroad Cockpit mode that displays a compass, altimeter, and other useful gauges. Rear-seat passengers can enjoy their entertainment system on available 11.6-inch displays, and everyone gets treated to a top-notch Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos.
Safety First
The G-Class EV comes packed with safety features to keep you protected on the road. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control.
Conclusion
A capable off-roader with good power as the normal G class, that’s what is the new Electric G-Class. The most important aspect according to me Mercedes didn’t change the design language when they decided to go EV, it still looks boxy and rugged, which is something very cool about this vehicle. It will be launched around mid of 2025 in India. So what do you think about the new Mercedes G580 EV?
