Tata Motors has officially launched the Harrier.ev, marking a significant milestone in India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape. Priced at an introductory ₹21.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tata Harrier.ev combines robust performance, advanced battery technology, and luxurious comfort, setting new standards in the electric SUV segment.
Performance and Powertrain
Built on Tata’s advanced acti.ev+ pure EV architecture, the Harrier.ev features a dual-motor setup delivering a combined output of 396 HP (116 HP front + 238 HP rear) and a peak torque of 504 Nm. However, the current battery can only discharge of peak output of 313 HP combined. This configuration enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds.
The Tata Harrier.ev is available with two battery pack options: 65 kWh and 75 kWh. The 75 kWh variant offers a certified range of up to 627 km on a single charge, addressing range anxiety concerns. Also, Tata states that this 75 kWh should give a real-world range of about 500 km. Moreover, with 120 kW DC fast charging, the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes.
Off-Road Capabilities
Designed to tackle diverse terrains, the Harrier.ev comes equipped with:
- Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) system for enhanced traction
- Six terrain modes: Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl, and a customizable mode
- Boost and Drift modes for dynamic driving experiences
- Off-road Assist with low-speed cruise control
- Transparent Mode, projecting the terrain beneath the vehicle onto the infotainment screen
These features were showcased in a pre-launch video where the Harrier.ev successfully ascended Kerala’s challenging Elephant Rock, demonstrating its off-road prowess.
