Tata is about to launch its first premium SUV. Harrier is built on the new OMEGA architecture that has a new impact 2.0 design. Tata says this new monocoque architecture has been designed to offer optimal torsional and bending stiffness, which would make SUV offer a superior driving dynamics in both urban and rough road conditions. This OMEGA architecture has been derived from JLR versatile D8 architecture and been jointly developed by Tata motors and Jaguar Land Rover. It was showcased in 2018 Auto Expo as the H5X concept and harrier has similarities to the concept.
Engine of Tata Harrier
Harrier’s new engine as kryotec 2.0 and it is ready for future BSVI emission standard. The 2.0 Lt 4-cylinder diesel engine is inspired from cryogenic rocket engine. This engine is coupled with electric variable geometry turbocharger (eVGT) and will produce 140 bhp in 5-seater harrier and 170 bhp in 7-seater harrier. Also torque is expected to be around 350 Nm. Harrier will be available in 6-speed Manual and automatic transmission.
Exterior of Tata Harrier
Right at front you can see single motion grill flanked by LED daytime running lamps. The trapezoidal projector headlamps and the fog lamps placed in an arrow head-shaped housing looks amazing. The beefy bumper with black cladding with a big mesh grill for air dam makes the SUV look heavy, the black cladding is also seeing in the side body and wheel arches.
The five spoke alloy wheels, 2-tone ORVMs with integrated LED turn signal lights. The common floating roof design with flared wheel arches, a shark fin antenna and a large roof mounted spoiler. The LED taillamps connected with black slat is beautifully wraparound, with Tata logo in center which makes it look like a single unit. Harrier badge which sits above number plate. Rear bumper also comes with black cladding which continues from the front.
I will post a detailed review once it is launched, also possibly post a video of the test drive. It is going to be launched in January 2019 at a price range of 16-21 lakhs. This is just an overview as I am excited about this car, as this is the first time Tata and land rover has come together and built an SUV with the D8 architecture similar to Discovery sport. An SUV that is worth waiting.
