The concept of Nexon was first debuted in 2014 and the identical production model was displayed in 2016 Auto expo. Finally Tata Nexon has gone on sale on Sep 21 at a base price of 5.94 lakhs and the top model at 9.54 lakhs Ex-showroom price Nagpur. The on road price in Nagpur is 6.69 – 10.93 Lakhs.
It is Tata’s first sub 4-meter SUV in market to compete with Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra TUV 300 and Ford Ecosports. Nexon is also inspired by Impact design which was popular with Tata Tiago, Tigor and Hexa. It comes with bold design and premium styling with smart features. Tata Nexon is available in 5 variants XE, XM, XT, XZ plus, XZ Plus Dual Tone and higher models will be loaded with host premium features.
Exterior
The exterior comes with some specific styling elements like white accents for the fog lamps, dual tone paint scheme, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, body-coloured door handles and mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels and much more.
The impact design is very distinctive which blends in with high SUV like stance and a sporty roofline of a sports car. The nose of the Nexon is like a smiling face with honeycomb pattern grill with glossy black finish and projector headlamps along with LED DRLs and bulging indicators. The tail lamps are clear lens units that get LED detailing. The Top end variants will get dual tone paint shades. Nexon rides on 16 inch wheels which has a subtle black cladding around the wheel arches.
Interior
Talking about interior, it is not as radical as exterior but still it is quite stylish. It has 31 storage spaces inside. The floating touchscreen infotainment system from Harman really catches your eyes, it has android auto and apple carplay. The best part is that it sits at the same level with driver’s line of sight. There is enough headroom and leg room for an average size adult and it can easily accommodate 5 with reasonable comfort. Though the thigh support is not adequate, seats offer a good back support in corners. It has a 350 Litre boot. The Nexon also gets multi drive modes – Eco, City, and Sport
The dashboard is finished with the combination of black and beige split by thick silver bar that runs across the dash. The center console is also finished with silver which houses the aircon controls, gear lever, and drive mode selector. The door pockets can hold big bottler with ease, it also has an umbrella holder placed above it. Tata has also managed to carve out a huge glove box that even comes with a detachable tray.
It has a wearable key like a wrist watch. It avoids the traditional key and with this key you can lock/unlock your car without carrying any key in you pocket.
Engine and Safety
Nexon comes in two engines petrol 1.2 L and 1.5 L diesel. The 1.2 L 3 cylinder petrol is turbocharged revontron and produces 108 bhp @ 5000 rpm and 170 Nm @ 1750-4000 rpm of torque. The expected mileage is 18-19 KMPL in petrol. The 1.5 L 3 cylinder diesel Revotorq also produces 108 bhp @ 3750 rpm and 260 Nm of torque @ 1500 rpm. The expected mileage is 22-23 KMPL in diesel. This is currently only available in 6 speed manual transmission, not automatic transmission yet in market but i hope tata will launch it soon.
Tata has provided Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Assist as standard in all variant.
So it is worth buying seeing the price, performance and mileage. The looks are also quite convincing looking at the competition. The only drawback is there is no automatic transmission available which is one of the most needed in the current traffic situation.
