We know the debate that is going on between AAP and BJP. BJP is saying AAP is giving a freebie. In this article, let’s understand what are welfare schemes and what are freebies. As a common man, I will talk from a common man’s perspective, what benefits us a welfare scheme or freebies?

What are Freebies?

Freebies are something that is given for free to people with an agenda, and that freebie doesn’t have much impact on anybody’s life or our economy in the long term. Consider free TV, a free two-wheeler. gold. Mostly Freebies are given before the election to increase the chances of winning the election.

What are welfare schemes?

Welfare schemes are schemes that are created by the government for the benefit of the people. Like Education, Health, employment and agriculture. Our government have quite a few welfare schemes in India

welfare schemes and freebies
  • Ayushman Bharat Yojana is a health insurance fund
  • PM Kisan Samman Nidhi
  • PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Abhiyaan
  • Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan
  • Jal Jeevan Mission
  • Jal Jeevan Mission
  • PM Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan

You can see all the schemes here.

These welfare schemes are meant to benefit and uplift the lives of people by providing aid to poor people.

Which are beneficial welfare schemes or freebies

These are a few Welfare schemes that our government of India has introduced to help people and uplift them from their situations. Welfare schemes are the ones that are really beneficial and useful for the growth of the country. Unlike freebies, which are so-called Election Stunts (Jumla). It’s not any one political party that does this kind of freebie Jumla. It is done by most political parties just before an election, just to win votes. They don’t really care about the situation of the public, they just take the benefit of that situation for themselves.

This has a lot to play with human psychology, people are more attracted to free gifts in the short term rather than a long-term benefit for them and their families. Long-term benefits require time and effort which does not attract us. This is exactly what needs to change short-term benefits will not have much impact and benefits on our lives, it may look like we are benefiting from it, but it only does for that time being. We need long-term solutions, which will really uplift our life and our country’s economy.

One thing I would like to mention is our income is very low compared to the expenses, according to a recent study, If you earn a salary of Rs 25,000 or higher, then your pay ranks in the top 10% of the total wages earned in India. Which is very low and people earning around this do not qualify for any of the welfare schemes, which is a shame. If I earn more than Rs 25000, I am perceived to have a good life, but that is not the case. We are living at a stage where everything is expensive, healthcare, education, day to day living.

Solution

We need more welfare schemes, actual schemes that are implemented rather than on being on paper. Education and Healthcare are 2 major areas where we need good welfare schemes as these are the basic necessity of every human. With these government should also focus on Agriculture and employment, which are required to uplift our lives and the economy of our country.

Freebies should be stopped, as they are just Jumla. All the political parties should avoid these freebies and focus on welfare schemes, as these would benefit them for staying in power for a longer period. Also, people should start thinking of long-term benefits, and should not get attracted to these short-term freebies. Things for free should only be given in distress times like covid.

One more thing is these welfare schemes and freebies are only good if the government has money, if the government is getting into high debt due to freebies then there is no sense of giving away things for free, and this will have a negative effect on our economy.

Me as a common man, I don’t want a free TV or a bike, I would rather opt for some education or employment scheme that will help me improve my skill and get a job.
