Maruti Suzuki Jimny was showcased in Auto Expo 2023, and launched in June 2023. In this article, I will give you a comprehensive review of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. You would have heard so much about the looks and the features, which I will cover but I will explore the driveability and practicality aspects which will surprise you. And who should buy the Jimny?
Let’s start with Pricing
Pricing
Maruti Suzuki Jimny comes in 2 models Zeta and Alpha. Below you can find the video for the pricing of the Suzuki Jimny. The pricing of Jimny is a bit higher. They could have reduced the price by 1.5-2 lakhs and it would have made a difference according to me.
On-Road pricing for Jimny in Nagpur
Variant | Price |
Zeta MT | Rs 15.40 Lakhs |
Alpha MT | Rs 16.65 Lakhs |
Alpha MT Dual Tone | Rs 16.85 Lakhs |
Exterior
Length | 3985 mm |
Width | 1645 mm |
Height | 1720 mm |
Wheel Base | 2590 mm |
Ground Clearance | 210 mm |
These are the basic dimensions of the vehicle. It is a sub-4 meter SUV with good ground clearance and a Good wheelbase of 2590, which is 100mm more than Its main rival Mahindra Thar. You really experience that long wheelbase benefits from inside. From the outside the vehicle looks small for an SUV, but when you get inside there is ample room for 4 people.
Another plus point for Jimny is the Vehicle looks apart from other vehicles, it will turn more heads for sure, and it will remain the same for a while now as it is a lifestyle vehicle and will not have the selling figures as other Maruti cars. Apart from that there is a lot of customization option which is available that would make Jimny awesome and good-looking. You can even make it look like a G Wagon.

One of the biggest downsides is the lack of storage space inside. You only get 2 cup holders that can hold a 1-litre bottle each. The door pockets are very small and you can store your wallet or mobile. The glove box is decent in size. Another downside which I faced is the rear seats have very poor under-thigh support for taller people. People around 5.4-5.5 in height would be okay in the backseats.
But overall space inside the cabin is great, you have plenty of legroom and headroom. There is 345 Litre Bootspace with 12V charging port and hooks. The front seats are quite comfortable and have good support.
Performance and Driveability
Jimny has a 1.5 Litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated Petrol engine. The power output is 104 HP and 134 NM of torque. It comes with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The power-to-weight ratio is 86.31 per ton. It is not a vehicle that you would push hard, it drives well with a decent pickup in the city, though you have to rev high to extract the most out of it. The gears are hard to shift, you need to put effort into shifting, which can be a challenge in the city and daily driving conditions.
The ride quality is very good and you dont feel the rough patch of the roads, the ride is very good for a 4×4. Jimny has a 3-link Rigid Axle with Coil Springs in the front and back. it is surprising to have such a good ride quality with a 3-link Rigid Axle. Overall it is a good vehicle with a comfortable ride, but the only downside is the hard gear shift in the manual, you can opt for automatic and that would make things easy.

Who Should Buy Jimny?
Jimny is for people who are looking for a practical 4×4 on a budget. Which is easy to drive in the city and also can do some serious offroading. You do have other practical 4×4 options like Isuzu and Toyota Hilux, but those are big trucks not easy to manoeuvre in the city. And then you Thar which lacks practicality, also it is not easy to drive in a city.
The major benefits of opting for Jimny are
- Good ride quality
- Easy to manoeuvre in the city
- Practical daily driveable vehicle
Conclusion
So here is my comprehensive review of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. I personally like the vehicle and it is a very good vehicle overall, expect a few downsides like poor under-thigh support for taller rear passengers, hard shifts for manual transmission, and the pricing could have 1.5-2 lakhs lower.
