Suzuki first announced the e-Vitara back in Nov 2024, but it has yet to be launched in India. In this 1 year, Mandhira has launched BE-6, XEV 9e, XEV 9s, and Tata has launched Harrier EV. A new company, Vinfast, has entered India with 2 products, and MG has also brought the Windsor EV with a new battery pack. But e-Vitara has nowhere to be seen. So why is Maruti Suzuki holding e-Vitara back, and what should they do with e-vitara according to me?
Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara
Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara has two battery pack option 48.8 kWh & 61.1 kWh. We know the claimed range of the larger battery pack, which is 543 km. Pricing and booking are expected around 15th Jan 2026.
What e-Vitara Lacks
Suzuki is selling e-Vitara in the UK & Europe, but not in India yet, though media drives have happened in India in Dec of 2025 for e-Vitara. And the feedbacks where not that great from the auto journalist. The lot was expected as this is Maruti Suzuki’s first EV, but the ride quality, cabin practicality, and boot space were something that where complaint from the auto journalist. Also, the rear seat space and headroom were limited for a 4.3 m SUV.
This past year, we saw a lot of cool and funky EVs in India from Mahindra & Tata, but the e-Vitara lacks any of that. You dont get any funky design, interior doesnt have that wow factor, nor any gimmick features. And no Panoramic Sunroof. The NVH levels are also not great; a lot of road noise creeps into the cabin, according to some auto journalists.
So in this competitive segment, which has Creta EV, BE-6, XEV lineup, Tata Harrier EV and Vinfast cars, e-Vitara seems to have a quite poor start.
What’s good so far with e-Vitara
Maruti has established quite a large network of fast chargers. Maruti Suzuki is offering a battery as a service option with the e-Vitara. They are also offering the Assured Buyback Program, which offers 50% after 5 years/75,000 km. They have trained employees on how to service an EV, and a 1500+ Service network has been established for EVs.
Also, there were no glitches during the media drive, unlike what is common in most EV media drives today, so that is a positive thing.
The Range is also expected to be good, with an efficiency of around 6-7 km per kWh. For 61 kWh, it comes around to 370-430 Km. Though competitors are offering more at this price point.
What should Maruti Suzuki do with the e-Vitara
The main point is pricing, they have to nail the pricing, unlike Jimny, which was priced high and failed miserably. This e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki’s first EV, has to be priced around 13-18 Lakhs. Which would make this a great product. Along with this, they should also offer 17-inch wheels, only 18-inch wheels are offered, which can make the ride quality better. Also, if they can improve the rear seat base, that can improve the rear seat’s practicality overall. I dont think they can do anything about the boot and wow factor, but that would be fine if they nail the pricing.
One thing Maruti Suzuki keeps in mind, Hyundai used the Creta brand for its EV and didn’t price well, Creta EV sales are struggling. So what do you think about this let me know in the comment.
