BMW Valvetronic Technology (Valve Lift)
Hello, Guys, I will tell you something about the Valvetronic technology by BMW. In most Gasoline vehicles when you press the accelerator pedal the valves open and lets the air in the engine, the valve is controlled by the throttle body. But in the case of the BMW Valvetronic system, there is no requirement for the throttle body will explain more below.
BMW Valvetronic
The Valvetronic is a BMW technology that has a variable valve lift system in combination with variable valve timing, which allows infinite adjustment to intake valve timing and duration. This claims better fuel economy and low emission and avoid regular use of throttle body. Valvetronic lets you get even more driving pleasure from your BMW engine. It works on both intake and exhaust camshaft. The opening of the valve depends on the amount of gas pedal you press rather than the throttle plate.
These Valvetronic systems have an extra set of rocker arms called lift arms, which is placed between the valve stem and camshaft. This arm pivot on the central point with the help of an electronically actuated camshaft, this movement alone can vary intake valve lift from fully open or maximum power to almost closed or idle state.
It alters the timing of valve opening and closing and shortens the duration which reduces pumping losses and increases fuel economy. As the valve lift is reduced a swirl is created in a 4 valve engine which results in better air and fuel mixture.
Some Benefits of Valvetronic
- Reduces pumping losses.
- Better fuel economy and low emission.
- This technology also helps in cold temperature to start your vehicle.
- It also reduces maintenance cost.
- It makes the engine run smooth
So this Valvetronic system is a good technology for your vehicle. Please watch the video below as the guys in Engineering Explained have given a brilliant explanation.
