It is been a while since I have a written a post on automobile. I was trying new type post, so I kept this topic aside. It is not easy to maintain this blog with all the different categories.

Mahindra has launched a new MPV Marazzo which priced Rs 11.44 – 16.11 Lakh Nagpur on road price. It comes only in a diesel variant with 7 and 8 seater options. You can notice that the design is based on a shark, and the TV commercial also show that. As Marazzo is shark in italian.

Exterior

Mahindra-MarazzoYou can see the shark design from the front grille which has 6 slats and a chrome element, representing the sharp teeth of the shark. When you look from front to back it has a design of a predator with big tail lamps at back. Blacked out B and C pillars add to the overall look of the Marazzo and the tiny bit that’s blacked out on the D-Pillar creates the illusion of a floating roof. Projector headlamps, triangular fog lamps and LED DRL’s are not standard. This makes the car look more agile so it would have been good if these where standards.

Marazzo is based on new platform, with new engine and body on frame front wheel drive, which gives more cabin space, this is because the engine has been moved forward. The length of the car is similar to XUV 4585mm still it feels big than XUV.

Mahindra Marazzo MPV Dimensions Measurement
Length 4585 mm
Width 1866 mm
Height 1774 mm
Wheelbase 2760 mm

Interior

Mahindra-MarazzoThis cars feels like a premium when you get inside. The dual tone finished interior, with 7-inch frameless touchscreen. There’s a lot that adds to the premium touch of the Marazzo. The dual tone finished dashboard with haptic touch and even the leatherette upholstery, which provides good under-thigh and lumbar support. The quality of materials used has really improved considering the Mahendra’s range till today. You feel you are not sitting inside a mahindra, which is a big thumbs up.

Marazzo has features like climate control, cooled glove box, cruise control and Android Auto, all these features are taken from XUV. Sadly, even this car misses out on Apple Carplay, which could have been a great feature considering the car’s premium positioning; and it certainly is a big miss.

Three sitting row with capacity of 7 or 8 seater, in 7 seater you have two seats in middle row, or a full bench for an 8 seater. There is rear AC vents on the roof as standard which is pretty good. If you are using a 7 seater you can adjust the middle row seats. You also have USB charger cup holder for all the passenger, even the passenger in last row. Considering all this the leg room and head room is pretty descent.

Speaking of the last row getting in and out is easy with one touch, though it is a little cramped at back but last row are meant to be cramped. Even after this the leg and the head room is descent.

The cargo space is 190 litres which is ok when compared to other MPV, but it is descent. If you are 7 people their can be a shortage of space for luggage. You can fold the rear seats and the cargo space is 680 litres.

Engine

It has a1.5 litre diesel engine which does 120 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, which kicks pretty early ar 1500 rpm. Marazzo weights almost 2 tonnes which is quite heavy for a MPV which has 1.5 litre engine. Mahindra has used lot of aluminium to keep the car light and you can see that when you drive around. It is easy to maneuver and stable at higher speeds. The engine currently caters to BS-IV emission norms.

It has a 6-speed manual transmission with a light weight clutch, which makes easy to shift. The steering wheel is nice and compact and feels good for a large car.

It is not quite as mentioned by mahindra, it is a diesel and it does make sound at 2500rpm, though the car noises does not enter the cabin. It has 17 inch tyres which is a big improvement.

Mahindra Marazzo Technical Specifications
Engine 1.5-litre Diesel
Max Power 120 bhp
Max Torque 300 Nm
Transmission 6-Speed Manual

There is not automatic transmission option or a petrol variant as of now, but if the demand rises mahindra will work on it.

Safety

Marazzo comes with dual airbags and ABS with EBD and Brake Assist and Isofix child seat mounts, as standard equipment, on the car, though with a big car like this, we’d expected it to get more airbags for rear passenger’s safety.

Mahindra Marazzo Variants Introductory Prices
Mahindra Marazzo M2 ₹ 9.99 lakh
Mahindra Marazzo M4 ₹ 10.95 lakh
Mahindra Marazzo M6 ₹ 12.4 lakh
Mahindra Marazzo M8 ₹ 13.90 lakh

It is priced below Tata Hexa and Innova crysta, it is more of competition for the Ertiga and Lodgy.

Yes this an all new platform car but we are in 2018 and the car does not offer anything different from other cars in the market, which is a big reason to worry for Mahindra from selling point of view. The power is not adequate has the car is heavy and while overtaking you need patience. You don’t have enough safety features, it is not a car people would want to buy. It is also not quite as specified by the company. So my verdict is there are option for this car in the market which you can buy.
