Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the fourth-generation Swift in India. It blends enhanced style, advanced technology, remarkable efficiency and a new 3-cylinder Z series engine. It is priced between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.65 lakh (ex-showroom). in this article, we will discuss about the new 4th gen Swift is better than the older Swift and is the new 3-cylinder Engine performs better than the old 4-cylinder engine. Let’s start with the Exterior changes of this new 4th Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift
Exterior
This 4th Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift gets new LED headlights and taillamps, a new Grille, and a restyled bumper. But the most important change is the new Clamshell bonnet with its line running through the entire body. This gives this new Swift a distinct and sporty look in my opinion. The rear door handles have come to the right place, earlier it was on the C-pillar. Overall Design from the front is quite different when compared to the previous Gen, but from the rear, you can spot similarities to the old Gen. The car is now slightly longer (+15mm), narrower (-40mm), and taller (+30mm), but maintains its stable 2,450mm wheelbase, 163mm of ground clearance and 265 Litres of boot space. You get 14″ tyres in lower models and 15″ in higher models. I would prefer 15″ as they offer better handling over the 14″.
According to me, the first-gen Swift is the best, I liked how it looked and the way it drove, it had a truly sporty car vibe, let me know which is your favourite Generation of Swift in the comments. Now let’s talk about the new 3 Cylinder Z series engine
Engine and Driving
The new 1.2L three-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine offers 80hp and 112Nm torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT transmission. The earlier Gen had a 4-cylinder K series engine with 88 HP and 113 NM of torque. This downsizing is mostly done to meet emission norms and to improve fuel efficiency. The 3-cylinder engine is more fuel efficient compared to the 4-cylinder. It now has 24.48 kmpl with Manual transmission and 25.75 kmpl with AMT, which is 14% better than before.
So how does it drive, does it lack in power? The answer is Yes it does lack power, but most of the people who drive Swift in the city won’t feel the difference because the low-end power and torque have been improved by 10%. But as soon as you push the car you do feel a lack of power and the 3-cylinder engine makes more noise and has more vibrations than before in high revs. The NVH (Noise, vibration, harshness) levels are well contained but do get the 3-cylinder grunt at higher RPMS.
The ride quality is good and similar to before, it soaks up bad roads quite effortlessly, and you dont feel the sharp edges and bad sections of the road inside the car. Though the suspension setup is not sporty you do get a fair amount of body roll and in big rumble strips, you and the passengers are moved around quite a bit.
I wished we had a Turbo engine option with a little sporty setup Swift, which would have made it more fun to drive. This new engine is fun to drive inside the city limits but on highways, you do feel the lack of power.
Now let’s talk about the updated Interiors
Enhanced Interiors
The interiors have been revamped, but it looks similar to Baleno or Fronx, you get a black interior with a neat-looking dashboard. It has a stick-out section in the middle which holds the 9″ touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 3-spoke steering wheel with cruise control. You get a good old analogue cluster with RPM meter and speedo, with a small MID in the middle for trip-related information. The dials have red accents which makes it feel sporty.
The front seats are comfortable and hold you well when you drive, but the back seat comfort is not adequate, it can be improved. But the room in the back seat is good for a City hatchback. However the all-black interior makes it feel a little claustrophobic in the back seat, and you dont get any sunroof.
You get 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, Isofix child mounts, Rear parking sensors, Seat belt warning and Hill assist as standard across all models. In higher models, you also get a reversing camera. Other features include Automatic Climate control, Crusie Control, Wireless Charger, Automatic headlamps, 60:40 rear seat split and more.
Competition and Pricing
With these upgrades, the Swift positions itself as a premium option compared to rivals like the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, which have lower starting prices. The new 4th Gen Swift is now closer to its higher segment sibling Baleno which starts at Rs 6.66 Lakhs. So is it worth its premium price? If you are looking for a city car with occasional highway trips, Swift is the vehicle you should go for. You get a reliable car from Maruti, and in the city, swift is fun to drive at lower speeds. So it is a better pick over the Grand i10 Nios or Tata Tiago.
